2013 Aug 30

Chris Hood from O'Fallon, Missouri has been named to the Westminster Blue Jays’ football team in Fulton, Missouri.

Hood, a freshman at Westminster, is going to be playing as a defensive lineman this year.

Before coming to Westminster, Hood attended Fort Zumwalt South High School.

The Westminster Blue Jays are being led this season by Head Coach John Welty and assisted by Sven Hack, Jake White, Bob Gould, Matt Morice and Don Malson. This is Coach Welty’s 15th year coaching the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays ended the last season with a 4-6 overall record and a 2-6 record in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. The Blue Jays tied for sixth in the UMAC. They were picked fourth in the UMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. They have a strong returning team with top notch newcomers, putting them in a prime position to compete in the UMAC. The Blue Jays will start the season with 16 returning starters, eight offensive returners and eight defensive; they have 36 total returning lettermen.

The Blue Jays begin open their season on September 7th, playing Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. They will have their home opener the following Saturday, September 14th as they host conference opponent Crown College at 1:00 p.m.

Westminster College values the student-athlete experience and the life-long lessons they learn each day --- some learned inside the classroom, while other skills and lessons are learned on the courts where these student-athletes compete. As President Barney Forsythe says, “Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, a commitment to excellence and a will to win, all lead to a life of success after graduation.” Every day at Westminster is a day to appreciate, reward and recognize our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom, on the field and within their communities.
