Danielle Smulczenski Named to the 2013-14 Westminster Blue Jay Women’s Basketball Team

2013 Nov 8

Danielle Smulczenski, from Springfield, Missouri, has been named to the Westminster Blue Jays’ basketball team in Fulton, Missouri. Smulczenski, a junior at Westminster, is going to be playing as a forward this year.

Prior to coming to Westminster, Smulczenski attended Kickapoo High School.

The Westminster Blue Jays are being led this season by Head Coach Tracey Braden and assisted by Clifton Cooper. Coach Braden is entering her seventh year with the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history last season (first time was in 2011-12 season). At the end of the 2012-13 season, Westminster was back-to-back-to-back St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Champions and back-to-back SLIAC Tournament Champions. The Blue Jays finished the season with a 17-11 overall record and a 14-2 SLIAC record.

The Blue Jays begin the 2013-14 season on November 15 as they host the Tip Off Tournament. The Blue Jays will face Elmhurst College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. They have 10 returning student-athletes.

Westminster College values the student-athlete experience and the life-long lessons they learn each day --- some learned inside the classroom, while other skills and lessons are learned on the courts where these student-athletes compete. As President Barney Forsythe says, “Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, a commitment to excellence and a will to win, all lead to a life of success after graduation.” Every day at Westminster is a day to appreciate, reward and recognize our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom, on the court and within their communities.
