Donald Ortmann Completed the 2013 Westminster Baseball Season

2013 May 15

The Westminster College Baseball team placed second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and third at the SLIAC Baseball Tournament. This year was the 13th SLIAC Tournament appearance since joining the SLIAC in 1992.

The Westminster Blue Jays eliminated Fontbonne University in their second game of the SLIAC Tournament and went on to play Spalding University to determine who played Webster University in the championship game. The Blue Jays were unable to pull out a win against Spalding and took third place. The Blue Jays finished their season with a 23-11 overall record and a 17-6 record in conference play.

The Blue Jays were one win shy of tying the most conference wins in a season. The 2001 team holds the record with 18 SLIAC wins.

Donald Ortmann, a senior from House Springs, Missouri, was a pitcher for the Westminster Baseball team. Before coming to Westminster, Ortmann attended Northwest High School.

Seven Blue Jays received SLIAC Honors and Head Coach Denny Hughes (Jefferson City, Mo.) was named SLIAC Coach of the Year. The Blue Jays are graduating five seniors this year.

Westminster College values the student-athlete experience and the life-long lessons they learn each day --- some learned inside the classroom, while other skills and lessons are learned on the courts where these student-athletes compete. As President Barney Forsythe says, "Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, a commitment to excellence and a will to win, all lead to a life of success after graduation." Every day at Westminster is a day to appreciate, reward and recognize our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom, on the field and within their communities.
