Joe Prophet Named to the 2012 Westminster Blue Jay Men's Basketball Team

2012 Nov 9

Joe Prophet from St. Louis, Missouri has been named to the Blue Jay's basketball team at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.

Prophet, a senior at Westminster, is going to be playing as a guard this year.

Before coming to Westminster, Prophet attended Cardinal Ritter High School.

The Westminster Blue Jays are being led this season by Head Coach Matt Mitchell and assisted by Marques Baldwin and Floyd Davis. This is Coach Mitchell's 15th year coaching the Blue Jays and is continuing on a six year winning streak.

The Blue Jays ended the last season 17-11 overall, and 11-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). The Blue Jays finished second in the SLIAC and took first place in the Conference Tournament, giving them a bid to the NCAA Qualifiers. The Blue Jays have eight returning student-athletes.

The Blue Jays begin their season on November 13th, playing their exhibition game against Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. The official season kicks off with the Tip Off Classic held by the Men and Women's Westminster basketball team on November 16th. Their first game will be against Hendrix College at 7:00 p.m.

Westminster College values the student-athlete experience and the life-long lessons they learn each day --- some learned inside the classroom, while other skills and lessons are learned on the courts where these student-athletes compete. As President Barney Forsythe says, "Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, a commitment to excellence and a will to win, all lead to a life of success after graduation." Every day at Westminster is a day to appreciate, reward and recognize our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom, on the field and within their communities.
